The Foundation for St Margaret’s School (FSMS) is the governing board for a reorganized school with the purpose of “fundraising, resource management, operation, and advocacy for a girls’ school in the Episcopal tradition, in Tappahannock, Virginia.”
Foundation for St. Margaret’s School has Obtained 501c3 Status
The fight for St. Margaret’s is happening on multiple fronts, and we need your support to succeed. A dedicated group of alumnae and friends has formed Save Our St. Margaret’s to champion the legal battle against Church Schools of the Diocese of Virginia and work toward regaining ownership of our beloved campus. Their efforts complement our educational mission by keeping our community informed and engaged in this critical fight.
Meanwhile, the Foundation for St. Margaret’s School is building the programs and community that will carry us forward. Your donations directly support both our legal defense fund and our current educational initiatives—from faculty salaries to program materials to maintaining the momentum that keeps St. Margaret’s spirit alive. Every contribution, whether financial or through sharing our story, brings us closer to the day when students will once again walk our campus and learn along the Rappahannock River. This is more than a donation—it’s an investment in justice, education, and the future of young women’s leadership.

Instructions to request your 2025 SMS donation be returned: Please request your donations made in 2025 to St. Margaret’s School be returned to you, and follow these instructions to redirect those funds to the Foundation for St. Margaret’s School.
Email Edwina Bell at ebell@sms.org to request that your 2025 contribution to SMS be refunded to you directly. Your generosity is vital to reviving the school. We will need these funds, and additional contributions you can make, to fund new school operations, acquire the campus, and pay potential legal fees.
Unrestricted gifts are most useful, but if you have a preference for how the funds are used let us know.
